What would it be like if there was a law that said no citizen could ever express their opinion publicly if they didn't vote in the last election?
Lots of people already rant about how bad things are politically, but have never voted. It's frankly hard to understand that.
As valuable and important as voting is, walking in your polling center, making some marks on the ballot, and walking out is just the beginning. It's also important to take all the steps after that.
Do you stay aware of what elected officials are doing after they get in office? Do you express your opinion about important issues they are debating? Do you talk to other people about issues that matter to you?
Even if you just walk in the polling center every four years, mark your ballot, and go home, that still counts. We all lead busy lives. We have work, school, relationships, kids, and tons of other things going on.
If you haven't already voted, please do today. Hey, other people have given their lives so we can do this every two and four years. It may seem like a small thing to do, but lots of blood has been spilled for us to have this right, this obligation, and this privilege.
This will be Brad's very first time to vote. And we're both holding hands as we walk down the street to the elementary school to cast our ballot. Yeah, we're both completely sick of all the negative political ads. We just have to keep reminding ourselves of all the blood that's been spilled so we can walk in and fill out that ballot. That's what this is about for us. Being grownup. Doing our duty. Being involved.
