Saw Justine last night, disappointing. I know it was made in 68, but that does not excuse bad b-movie soundtracks and crappy acting... (If you want that, look for Ken Russell movies, and at least you get a laugh out of it.) And consider that Caligula, with that awesome orgy scene, was made in 79, just 10 years later.
Of course, it was De Sade, so I thought that there would be hot sadistic sex scenes. None that I can think of, except a few women with tits out, draped in sheets and chains. I suppose by the standards of the day, it was really risque, and a brave subject matter to explore, but this 2009 adventurer wasn't impressed. I should have known, Netflix only gave it about a 2.5 rating, but I rarely pay attention to ratings, as I often really love movies that drive other people nuts. I am a David Lynch/Kenneth Anger devotee, for starters.
I appreciated the storyline, but not the movie production. I think the most interesting moment for me, was when she was with the guys in the monastery, the 4 Good Men, and the dude said to her that she was getting her pleasure from her endurance, and she concluded herself, from that, that she was the sinner! Us superior, holier than thou, uptight martyr types are arrogant fucking sinners in the extreme. I concur.
Any trip is an ego trip, no matter how holy you think you are. Perhaps the holy ego trippers are worst of all. They should know better, and abuse people's souls, not just their bodies or outward lives.

Until the moment happens when your heart bursts wide open in blissful love and surrender, (and stays that way!), it is all an ego trip, any thought, any notion about yourself, any part of your self-image, especially the part that tells you that you are a good righteous (or bad) person.
It's worth a watch, it's a good story, but don't expect the hot sex-romps, you won't get that.
And that goes totally counter to what I said the other day, that I wasn't looking specifically for 'porn', more things that make me think, challenge me, but some action wouldn't have gone amiss. ;-)
