A letter to you

To all our readers:

Hi everyone. I want to say a heartfelt thanks to everyone who took the time to write out your thoughts, advice, and support on my post from yesterday.  When I was reading back over all the comments, I started taking notes of things I hadn't thought of -- really helpful and relevant things I'm going to look into.

I'm trying to make some important decisions about my future and the comments you left are helping me feel more hopeful and energized. And I thank you so much for that.

I was a little worried you would see me as a whiny little kid because I think that's one of the things I tell myself sometimes. There's that sentence in my post yesterday about "...why do some things in life seem to take so long and are so hard and complicated?" that sounds a little whiny to me, but I tried to just write out my honest feelings regardless of how it sounded. I decided to leave that in because, well, that's how I honestly feel sometimes. Maybe I shouldn't feel that way, but I honestly do sometimes.

And then you left comments where you treated me with such respect and care that it almost blew me away. It means a lot to me that you take my concerns and fears seriously and talk to me as if I'm worthy of your time and care. I've had a lot of experiences in my life where I honestly felt like the people around me didn't think I was worthy of their time and care, and I'm always a little surprised and startled when I get it.

One of the things I like about our blog is how we can sometimes write about things that are completely silly and humorous, and then turn around and write about things that are very serious and celebratory, and sometimes very serious and painful.

But the biggest thing I like is how regardless of the "tone" of the topic we're writing about, your reactions and comments always reflect something personal about you. You may not share personal things about your life (even though we're thrilled when you do), but you always share your concern, your humor, your respect, your advice, and your support. And in my book, that's sharing something personal about you.

So again, thank you. Like I said I'm feeling more hopeful and energized about my future because of you. I'm also feeling a little more worthy of the time and care you show me. And that, almost more than anything you said, means the world to me.

Sincerely,

Bradley

I've been thinking

Because of where I am in my undergraduate degree program, I've been doing some thinking about my future in school. I'm getting close to being required to declare a major (I have to do this at the end of next semester) and this has raised a number of questions.

There's absolutely no doubt in my mind that I want a career as a professional chef. I have no illusions that just because I finish my schooling I'll be able to land a dream job doing the style of cooking I love in the perfect restaurant setting. I know I'll have jobs doing things I may not particularly enjoy as I start to accumulate experience in the field. I'm totally fine with that.

But to be honest, right now it feels like this whole process is going to take decades and decades and I'm feeling  really, really impatient.

I decided years ago, while in high school, that I wanted to go to college. At the time I hadn't decided on anything specific I wanted to study, but I definitely wanted a college degree. There was something important about having that solid degree and knowing nobody could take that away from me.

Don't get me wrong. I've enjoyed most of the courses I've taken so far. I'm doing well academically, even though I have to work really hard for the grades I've gotten. I'm actually proud of myself for taking school seriously and somehow I've managed to make some friends.

But the problem is this. I'm feeling really, really impatient knowing I have to wait several more years before I begin training for my career. Sure, I'm getting experience right now as a waiter in a restaurant and I've been able to get a very, very small amount of "hands on" experience working with the chef there.

So if I stick with college, what should I be doing? Spend all my spare time reading cookbooks? Turn our kitchen at home into some kind of cooking laboratory and use Matty and our friends as guinea pigs? Leave my current job and try to find another one where I can work as a line cook in a roadside diner?

The other option is to drop out of college as soon as I get accepted in a culinary school. Or drop out now before I spend any more money trying to get a degree in history or literature or sociology or analytical chemistry! Something I would have to really s-t-r-e-t-c-h to make it applicable to what I really want to do.

I'm not making any decisions rashly and I'm definitely going to finish this semester no matter what. There's too much at stake here for me to screw things up.

But damn. I really am feeling so impatient! Right now it feels like I'm just treading water so I can some day start doing what I really want to do. But what if I regret not getting a college degree?

I want my decision to be the right one and I really want to enjoy the process. So where am I right now? I don't know the right decision and I'm not enjoying the process.

When all is said and done, I want a life I can be proud of. Right now it feels like a goal that's never going to happen. Maybe I'm being too impatient. Maybe I'm being unrealistic. But why do some things in life seem to take so long and are so hard and complicated?

As soon as I get home tonight I need to begin reading for a psychology class I'm taking called Perception and Behavior. To be honest, I'd much rather be reading for a class called, Fundamentals of Classical Cuisine.

I'm sure I'll figure all this out. If I didn't believe that, I'd probably sink into a really dark depression. But damn, it's hard to stay in a good place about all this.

Thanks for reading. Sincerely, Chef Brad

Those dreaded exams

We're going to lay low most of this week since final exams are going on. I always get extremely anxious about finals and I've learned that most of what I'm feeling is just that... feelings, and not necessarily facts.

My counselor has taught me about the Rational Mind and the Emotional Mind.

The Rational Mind says the facts are that I did a pretty good job with all my classes. My assignments went well and the papers I did came out all right.

Before I listened to my Rational Mind, the Emotional Mind said all kinds of cruel things, like, "You made a big mistake by going to college. What were you thinking? College is for people who have a brain."

I'm happy to report that my Rational Mind seems to be in control about 85% of the time, and I can feel just "normal anxiety" like anybody would.

The 15% of the time the Emotional Mind is in control, it's, well, pure hell. Matty has been the best thing that's ever happened to me by reminding me about the "facts" in the Rational Mind. Plus he's been unbelievably supportive in giving me full-body massages, cuddling me, comforting me, making hot chocolate, and reminding me to stay in the rational part of my brain. Oh, and the bubble baths he makes for me are the best!

I have some friends, too, who believe in me and always seem to know just the right things to say to make me feel reassured and calm.

We might be posting a few short things this week. I always like writing things for the blog and then reading what every one of you say. You're the best.

Now back to the books! Oh, and a nice warm, luxurious bubble bath for later! Maybe I can convince a certain person to join me, too! That would be nice!

Say what?!

I swear I'm gonna get in big trouble with one of my classes.

I'm taking a literature course in Shakespeare. Oh God, have mercy on my soul! What was I thinking when I signed up for this?

We're reading (or in my case attempting to read) some of his major hits. One goal the prof has is to show us the "sublime beauty" (her words) of this great playwright and poet.

"Don't be afraid of the archaic language," she soothingly reassured us.

Okay, I'll give it my best. I always like a good challenge, especially when it comes to language. I'm game. Bring it on, O Great One.

So, we're in Hamlet now. You know, "To be or not to be, that is the question."

We were in class the other day taking turns reading different passages out loud so we could experience the "sublime beauty" of the language. This is part of the passage I read out loud:

O all you host of heaven! O earth! What else?
And shall I couple hell? Oh, fie! Hold, hold, my heart,
And you, my sinews, grow not instant old,
                                   But bear me stiffly up.

What the holy hell is this? Did he have a dictionary open and just flip through it picking out random words and sticking them together?

I had read the entire act the night before because I knew she was going to ask us to take turns reading it aloud. I really wanted to do a good job because I sincerely want to try and challenge myself to see what this "sublime beauty" is all about. Not only am I paying good money for this education I'm getting, but it would be genuinely nice if I could actually appreciate this man's work.

When it came my turn to read, I tried to put some expression in the words so it wouldn't come out in monotone. I swear I was really trying. I could only get it to come out in monotone.

And I swear by everything that is holy, I DID NOT MEAN TO SNICKER and snort while I was reading it! You believe me, don't you? I had absolutely no control whatsoever when my snickers came flying out of my mouth. It was not my fault and I can't be held responsible.

I can't help that Mr. Shakespeare begs that "...my sinews, grow not instant old." And I sincerely hope that his sinews bear him "stiffly up." I swear to God I wish him well with those sinews!

So please, Dr. Professor, be understanding of my efforts to sincerely get everything out of this writer I can. I'm trying not to sneak a peek at those modern day translations of his plays. Give me credit for that. But come on. Fie, fie on you for not understanding my snickers!

And as I and my sinews are trying the best I know how, I beg you to "bear me up stiffly." I think.

Just One Week Left

The day before I started my college career last January, I sent this email to some friends of mine:

Can I just make the following statement?

My stomach has been upset all day. There's a rain/ice/snow storm
moving through overnight. I start college tomorrow. Matty has been my rock today. I'm a big baby. I'll be perfectly fine after tomorrow's over.

That is all. Thank you for listening.
Can you tell I was a wee bit anxious?

Matt was included in the email exchanges and when I seemed to disappear for a while, he sent this email to our friends:

Bradley's on the phone with his sis getting a pep talk. I asked him
what I could do for him tonight to help him relax and he asked me if I
minded making him a bubble bath, so I'm gonna light some candles too
and join him.
Well, I'm pleased to report that I'm in a lot better shape this term than back in January! We start back the day after Labor Day (next Tuesday) and we're not expecting any snow storms and my stomach is not in knots.

I also don't think I'm being a big baby, but, um, I might still need that bubble bath with a certain someone to take my mind off any anxiety that might emerge. I also need to remind a certain tub-mate to pick up some scented candles.

Oh, wait. I think I can feel a little tingle of anxiety creeping in as I write this. Hmm. Maybe a bubble bath... with candles... with Matty... every night until next Tuesday will take care of that. It's worth a try, right? ;)

Summer Plans

Hi everybody! This is Brad and I'm going to be your Blog Host for a little while.

Matty started work earlier this week and he's not exactly sure what his hours are going to be since they can vary from day to day depending on the job they're working on.

If you remember he got his old job back at the construction company where he'll be helping them update, refinish, and refurbish old homes. I gotta say he's in heaven going back there since he's definitely not your 9 to 5 office kind of guy! Put him in an office and he'll be staring out the windows daydreaming. And squirming in his seat. And getting up all the time to walk around looking for other stuff to do!

Plus I'm gonna definitely enjoy welcoming him home at the end of his day. I mean, having my very own hunky construction worker walk in the front door with that leather belt thingy they wear to carry a hammer, screwdrivers, and other assorted equipment, is, well, a real turn on! I've already gotten some "hammering" out of the deal within 5 minutes of him walking in the door -- and I'm not talking about the "hammer" in his leather belt thingy either! He's got another "hammer" he keeps hidden most of the time that's got my name written on it! ;-)

I've already gone on two job interviews myself and I have a third one lined up. There's a restaurant in the next town over from where we live that looks really promising. It's one of those restaurants that has a really nice atmosphere inside -- not too formal and not too casual. Somewhere in between. They're looking for wait staff, which I have some experience with, and I got the impression I probably got a job there, even though he didn't formally offer it to me yet. I'm going back this weekend to see him again and that's when I'll find out.

I told him I was interested in getting some kitchen experience, even though I've never worked in a restaurant kitchen, but I was able to talk intelligently about cooking and he seemed impressed I suppose. He said he would talk to his chef about it and said I would have to be flexible in my hours if it worked out. So, we'll see.

I also had an interview yesterday at this really fancy (meaning upscale, five-star) restaurant in downtown Boston. It's one of those you're definitely not going to see your average college kid frequenting! Coat and tie. Platinum credit card in the wallet (you know, the ones that advertise: "You've earned it, and now is the time to start living your dreams.").

I only got the interview because I have an uncle who knows some people in the restaurant business. They seemed really nice, but it's definitely five-notches above what I'm use to when we eat out.

It was pretty clear that they're only interested in filling some wait staff positions. When I asked about working in the kitchen, one of the managers just stared at me like a deer in the headlight. Must have thought I just got off the boat or something. He quickly composed himself and said they have an arrangement with some culinary schools (both locally and internationally, he didn't hesitate to tell me) where those students can come to get some professional experience before they graduate. I'm definitely not in the running for that, needless to say. But, if I get my foot in the door, well, that would be good.

Oh, the good news! Both of us passed all our classes with flying colors! Yippee! If you remember, I was is a constant state of nerves the whole semester. Keeping up with assignments, doing all the readings, going to all the study groups, making it to all the classes, etc.... Now I can't remember what all the anxiety was about! Well, I do, but all I can say is I'm glad the semester is over. I'm sure (keeping my fingers crossed) the next semester will be a little less nerve wracking!

I'm still continuing with my therapy sessions each week, even though I'm not in summer school. I had to pre-enroll for next semester and I had to agree do this research thing through my faculty advisor over the summer.

Anyway, the sessions are going well. I still like the therapist I'm seeing and he's mainly helping me "pace" (his word) myself in the sessions. After I finished with finals I was thinking, Okay, now I can really get into all the hard issues I was avoiding while taking classes.

Oh man, did I have a waterfall of tears talking about some childhood issues. He very firmly told me it was important to "pace" myself through all this, meaning not to feel I had to tear my heart open and spill everything out in one or two sessions! That was a great relief. Now we're going at a slower pace and it feels a lot better. He laughed when I told him I didn't want any more Niagara Falls sessions! He joked back and said if every session was Niagara Falls, he'd have to charge me for all the Kleenex!

Well, I guess that's it for now. If you'll excuse me I need to do some cleaning around the house before my construction worker comes home -- hopefully to do some "hammering" with that "tool" that has my name on it! LOL.

It's All Over!

No, silly... not our relationship!

(at noon today, that is)

We are pleased to report we both did quite well and now it's time for a little
Rest and Relaxation!

We finally have some time now to celebrate Matty's 20th Birthday this weekend!

And we also have some time to celebrate our Two Year Anniversary and catch up on sleep, sex, reading, taking naps, sex, movies, eating, sex..... sex.

Chicks and Dicks and a Uniform Fix

Since this is Final Exam Week here in The Wacky World of Matt and Brad, we're going to be posting some things that don't require a lot of time on our part.

We've been trying to keep our brains from freezing up with all the studying we've done and we're happy to report that we've done a pretty good job of making sure we balanced all that with some fun time.

So today is Day One of exams. And while we're in class sweating our sweet little butts off trying to prove we've been paying attention and have taken the course work seriously, we want to direct your attention to one of our favorite blogs.

This month over at Chicks & Dicks, the theme is Men in Uniform. Edmond Manning started the month off with a post he called Sir, Yes, Sir! Well, that title certainly made us sit up and pay attention! He explained the month's theme this way:
"For all of May, come here to get your uniform fetish fix. I have it on good authority we'll be seeing a few explorations of cop uniforms, martial arts, and fire fighters. Oh, and futuristic military uniforms too, so you can feel confident there will be men to lust after in the future."
He was going through all the different uniforms men wear that many times cause a stirring in the nether regions, and I have to say Edmond now has a special place in my heart since he officially recognized one of my favorite "uniforms." Here's what he said:
"And swimmers in those tight, tight Speedos…that still counts as a uniform, right?"
If you know anything about me, you know I love, love, love men in Speedos. I wrote something about this about a year ago, and this is what I said:

"I practically grew up in Speedos. My parents said I took to water like a fish right after I was born. They said when I turned two years old and they would take me swimming I would have these huge temper tantrums when I took my clothes off and they tried to put on my swim suit. They said I would yell something like, 'But I'm a fish! I'm a fish!' And you can bet no amount of reasoning or threats would make me willingly agree to wear anything. They finally bought me one of those Speedos for little kids (probably had maybe 5 square inches of material). When they showed it to me, they said I lit up and just said, 'Okay'."

So, thank you, Edmond, for recognizing the Speedo as an official uniform!

And without further ado, while our little butts are warming the seats in the classroom, send your butts over to Chicks & Dicks and get your own Uniform Fix. After this week is over, you might find me at the beach in my Official Speedo Uniform.

Growing Up: What a Balancing Act

I've always been pretty good at balancing different things in my life.

When I was in high school, I was on the soccer team and that required a good chunk of my time going to practice. That was all about team work and learning how to use different playing skills as a member of the team.

It also required a lot of time practicing on my own. For example, trying to get better at juggling the ball is something you can only do on your own. I mean, you can practice juggling (like the guy on the right) with a bunch of other people around, but it's basically something you're doing by yourself. The purpose of this solo practice is to learn about timing and control so you can be a better team player.

Then I had to balance my soccer practice with studying for my classes and staying on top of my grades. Our coach always said something like, "Your school work always comes first. You fall behind in that and you're off the team." An important lesson in "balancing."

I also had a part-time job when I was in high school. There was a small family-owned grocery store close to where I lived and I was a bagger and stock boy. Now I had to add school work (number one priority) to soccer practice and my job. Another balancing act.

I did a pretty good job of managing all these things. I kept my grades up, I never missed soccer practice, I always made time for my solo soccer practice, and I always made it to work on time. Like I said, I've always been pretty good at balancing different things in my life.

At the time, I felt like all the things I just described required a huge amount of effort to stay on top of it all. Well, now we get to a different phase of my life.

I now feel like I'm taking an advanced course in how to balance my life.

One of the things I've been talking to my therapist about is how to better manage all the important things I'm doing. He asked me to make a list of these things. This is what I came up with:

1. My relationship with Matty
2. My course work in college.
3. My relationship with my dad.
4. Paying for college.
5. Spending time with family.
6. Spending time with friends.
7. Recreation and fun.

Well, one conclusion is that I'm not in high school any more!

My therapist then said he suspected the first four on the list probably involved more than a few emotions.

The next thing he wanted me to do was to identify which specific emotions were involved in each thing. Huh? What was he talking about? All I could come up with at the time was this:

1. Matty - Happy emotions.
2. College classes - Stress emotions.
3. Dad - Confused emotions.
4. Paying for college - Stress emotions.

Well, he tried to get me to elaborate on each emotion, and that was a little harder.

He said, "Are all your emotions with Matty 'happy'?"

"Well, mostly, but sometimes there's stress."

"What kinds of stress?"

"Well, you know."

(He didn't accept that as an answer. He said, "How do you think I would know unless you tell me?")

"Okay. Sometimes I have feelings when he forgets things."

"What kind of feelings?"

"Well.... I don't know. Maybe aggravated. I guess."

~     ~     ~     ~     ~     ~     ~     ~     ~     ~

We went through each of the first four things I listed and he asked the same questions. The end result of that is I got an assignment. He gave me a handout listing all the different emotions there are. And it was in fine print. And it went on and on and on. (Not really, but that's what it felt like!)

He suggested I start keeping a "Feelings Journal" where I would keep track of different things I do that make me have a feeling. Then he wanted me to go to the list he gave me and find the feeling that best describes it.

Well, before I had my second session, I decided to rebel against my
therapist. Pretty ballsy, huh? What he wanted me to do with this assignment was making me have all kinds of emotions. These are the words on my handout that matched my emotions about doing this assignment:

Irritated. Annoyed. Upset. Miserable. Ashamed. Pessimistic. Alone. Fatigued. Vulnerable. Frustrated. Anxious. Worried. Restless. Dejected. Humiliated. Sorrowful. Unhappy. Lonely.

Lovely. Just lovely. Definitely not a pretty picture.

We talked about why I was feeling all those things and it all boiled down to me telling him this was making me feel too many things when I just need to concentrate on getting through finals. At least for right now.

"How do you feel right now telling me this assignment is too much?"

(I had the List of Feelings handout in my lap but I didn't want to look down at it. It felt like I might be looking at a cheat sheet, ya know?)

"Well.... I'm feeling like you might think I'm not trying hard enough. That I'm not doing my best."

"Brad, has anybody in your life ever told you, 'Brad, you're not trying hard enough? You're not doing your best.'?"

Well, I started getting teary and all I could say was, "Number three."

"Number three? I don't understand."

"Look at number three on that first list we did earlier."

"Your dad. Your dad use to tell you you're not trying hard enough?"

"Yep"

"Brad, I'm not your dad. You can tell me this assignment is too much and I'll respect that."

Well, if this was a play, the stage directions would say something like, [client breaks down crying].

The good thing about all this is that I feel like my therapist and I are on the same page. He gave me a relaxation CD and wants me to use it twice a day. He also wrote down this list (based on stuff I had already told him) and asked me to read it at least twice a day:

1. My GPA from high school was (__X__) [in the A range].
2. I've maintained an A-range in all my college assignments so far.
3. Even though I may feel I'm not trying hard enough, the reality is that A-range work in college is considered "above-average" performance.

I guess I'm doing a pretty good balancing act, all things considered.

I love this man

I remember seeing this man interviewed somewhere on TV and all I remember was that he seemed like one of the wisest, most gentle, most intelligent, and fiercely compassionate human being I've ever heard.

P.S. - Just so you know, Brad and I are keeping a low profile this week. Final exams are on the near horizon. Lucky me, my birthday is during that week! {sigh}

Making Love in History Class

So, what do you do when you're bored in history class? Well, make love, of course!

Back on December 19th, Brad said how excited he was that we managed to schedule one class together this semester. If you remember, it was a course in American History.

I've always been interested in history and I especially like reading about the American Civil War, so I was looking forward to see what the course would cover.

Going back to that post he wrote on December 19th, he said how excited he was "...knowing we'll be sitting together in the same classroom and can do homework and papers together. He's [Matty] a little worried that he'll be too distracted by me sitting right next to him, but I've told him he has to keep his hands to himself and face the professor! At all times! Either that or I'm moving to another place in the classroom, probably behind him so he can't steal these looks at me!"

Well, we had this History class yesterday and I just want it noted that Brad is not as innocent as he looks! He was all worried I would not pay attention to the lectures if he was sitting next to me.

We decided to get to the classroom a little early so we could make sure we had a seat next to each other. Really sweet, right? Actually it was one of those mini-lecture halls and it looked like it could probably seat about 50 to 75 people. It had these really long tables that sorta curved around in a semi-circle and we picked a place in the back of the room since Brad said it would be "safer" that way (!).

Since this was just the first class, we got all the rules we had to follow about papers that would be expected, attendance, make-up work, exams and then an outline of what the course would cover.

Even though most of what the professor was covering was on this handout he passed around, Brad was taking notes and being the good student and I was glancing over at what he was writing and worrying if I should be doing the same thing. But I figured if he was already taking notes, I could look at them later in case I missed anything.

Well, let me tell you something about Dr. History Professor first. He was really animated and making all kind of gestures with his hands and was walking back and forth across the raised platform where he was standing. You could immediately tell he really, really liked teaching history.

At first I thought he might be a "loaner professor" from the English Department because he was using a lot of flowery language that made even this dull information about attendance, make-up work and exams sound interesting.

Since Brad was all concerned about whether I would be able to keep my hands off him during class, I agreed to keep my hands on top of the table in front of us instead of under the table. I told him I promised not to let them wander underneath and that I would pay attention to the instructor the whole time.

Well, I'm proud to say I kept my end of the bargain. I was getting interested in what Dr. History Professor was saying about how we were going to cover some of the foreign "entanglements" the U.S. had gotten involved in over the years. I wish he had started his lecture since it already sounded interesting, but he was just giving an overview of the course topics.

So while Dr. History Professor was talking about all those "entanglements," the cute boy sitting next to me started bumping his leg next to mine. At first I thought it was just an accident because he was shifting a little in his seat. But then he started "tangling" his left leg around my right leg! I tried to just ignore it since I thought he might be testing me to see what I would do. I kept looking straight ahead so I could hear more about those "entanglements"  and didn't give Brad any attention, thinking he would be proud of me for passing this test. I must have passed because he moved his leg back and we went back to normal students listening to the teacher.

Then Dr. History Professor was saying something about the role of "foot soldiers" during the American Revolution. Almost like he was waiting for this, the cute boy sitting next to me moved his foot over to mine and actually, I swear to God, started playing footsies with me! Instead of ignoring this like I did with his leg "tangling" with my leg, I sorta gently shoved his foot away, again thinking this was another test and this was the right answer!

At this point Dr. History Professor said something about the "rise" of American capitalism. Well, since we were both getting a kick out of some of the words this guy was using (I swear he was really from the English Department), we both turned our heads toward each other and winked. Then I quickly turned back to face straight ahead, since I had no idea what the cute boy might do with that word and I would totally flunk the test I thought me might be giving me.

Then the professor used an expression, and I can't remember what it referred to, but I did remember him saying something about how we were going to cover "the expansion and retreat of [something]..." At this point I was a lost cause. I mean, I was waiting for that cute boy to do something having to do with "expanding" and "retreating." So I noticed him out of the corner of my eye (while continuing to look straight ahead like a good student) shifting in his seat again and he was trying in a very subtle way to make some kind of adjustment in his pants! Oh. My. God. Was something "expanding" or was this just another test for me? He didn't stay at it for long, and I forced my eyeballs to keep looking straight ahead the whole time.

Now I'm a total lost cause. Regardless of whether he was just being playful or giving me a test, he should know by now that once my brain starts thinking about sex, it gets stuck there. I can't be held responsible for anything that happens at that point!

I started thinking about what it would be like to put him up on that table and start having wild sex with him! Right in front of the whole class. Right in front of Dr. History Professor. Right in front of God! Thankfully I do really have some control over myself, even when my brain gets all revved and stuck on thinking about sex.

All I can say is that I successfully passed any test Brad might have been throwing my way. I mean, I'm there to get an education and get all smart and the boy started tempting and distracting me. How am I suppose to learn anything with all that temptation going on, huh?

I looked over at him, squinted my eyes just a little, and gave him a smile. He just looked at me with this puzzled expression and it seemed like his face was trying to say, "What?" I mean, the boy had been tangling his legs all around mine, playing footsies, adjusting his pants and he gives me this innocent expression like I'm in la-la land. He just shrugged his shoulders, smiled back and returned to taking notes.

Man, is flirting all he has on his mind? Does he not realize I can't think about American "entanglements" and "foot" soldiers and the "expansion and retreat" of something in American History while he's distracting me like he did?

If he was testing my agreement to not do anything to distract him, well, I passed with flying colors! I didn't act on my impulse to have wild sex with him right there in the lecture room. If I had, it would have been all his fault!

It's cool that we have this class together. It means we have more time with each other on campus. But I may have to find another seat if he doesn't learn a little self-control or find another way to test my self-control!

I mean, I'm there to get an education and get all smart and I can't have these temptations and distractions going on. So, while I discipline myself to pay close attention to the lectures, I just need to make sure a certain really cute boy doesn't cheat off my notes. And I'm going to have to cover my paper when we take a test so he can't cheat off me!

And we'll save those "entanglements" and "foot" play and "expanding and retreating" for when we get home!

10 Things I Love About You, Matty

About a week ago, Matty wrote something about a new bog we came across (the link to the blog is here) where the blogger listed 10 things she loved about her husband. We wrote her and said that we were so inspired by what she wrote, we were thinking about doing something similar on our blog.

Well, after the whole experience of starting college yesterday, I woke up this morning and thought today would be the perfect time to do my list of 10 things I love about Matty. He has an early class this morning and I don't go in until later, so I'm sitting here thinking about how he supported and cared for me yesterday. I guess this is kind of a love letter or love list to him and I'm sorta feeling like I can't hold all this inside. Anyway, here's what I came up with:

1. I love that you called my sister on Monday afternoon and told her how nervous I was feeling about starting school the next day. You know how close I am to her and you also knew I didn't want to bother her by sounding like a little baby. She called to tell me she was thinking about me and said just the right things she knew would help me feel special. I had no idea you had called her beforehand and I love that you did that for me.

2. I love that when we were chatting with some close friends online over the weekend, you made sure the focus was on me getting lots of support instead of the topic being on just some of the silly and fun things we often chat about.

3. I love that you got up extra early yesterday so you could go outside and take care of all the snow on the car and driveway so I could take my time getting ready for school. Yeah, I know you like doing stuff like shoveling snow and doing work outside, but I could tell you were doing this especially for me since I was having a little freak-out about the overnight rain/ice/snow event and was worried we wouldn't get to campus on time.

4. I love that you snuck out on Monday afternoon to buy some of those delicious muffins I like from the bakery down the street and had the table set with some fruit and coffee. Even though I never said a word about how I was probably not going to want a big breakfast, somehow you knew just what would put a smile on my face and just the right nourishment in my stomach.

5. I love how you surprised me with a wonderful and luxurious bubble bath (complete with candles set around the bathroom -- when did you buy those?) on Monday night. And that soaking in the tub was not about something that would lead to making love, but that it was all about helping me relax. You were so adorable sitting in there with me and just talking about how sweet I looked in all those bubbles and about how everything was going to be fine.

6. I love that when you found a parking space on campus on Tuesday you told me not to open the door just yet. You just reached over and took my hand, looked straight in my eyes, and told me how much you loved me. Then you made me stay in the car until you came around and opened my door for me.

7. I love that you made sure we were holding hands as we walked across campus as far as we could together before we had to go in opposite directions to our own class. And that before we separated, you adjusted the scarf around my neck to make sure I was warm and tucked a little bit of my hair that was sticking out of my hat back inside. And then gave me a kiss and said you couldn't wait to meet for lunch a little later.

8. I love that when you looked around the room and finally saw me sitting at the table in the little cafe where we agreed to meet for lunch, your face lit up like I've never seen it before. You started walking to the table and your face had this look that said something like, "God, I'm happy to see you." I almost started crying I was so glad to see you.

9. I love that when you got to the table, you leaned in to kiss me like we were the only ones there. And I love that when you sat down, all you wanted to hear about was what my class was like and how I was doing. I was so relieved you were there with me at that moment, I actually forgot to ask about your class (sorry about that).

10. I love that when we got home you went in the kitchen and made me a cup of that tea I love so much and we got to sit on the sofa together and just talk about the day. After a while, when I started getting sleepy (at 4:00 in the afternoon!), I love that you covered me in that soft blanket and then eventually led me to the bedroom where you tucked me in so I could take a nap. I love that you knew I just needed to rest for a while and didn't even once make this into an opportunity to have sex (though that came later in the night!).

Thank you for making the day one that I'll always remember. I love you so much.

Starting College and Whether I Should Believe Matty

Well, the BIG DAY is finally here. I'm starting my first semester of college today so I guess you can imagine I might be feeling lots of different things.

Okay, since you asked, here's the "short list" of my feelings:
  1. Excitement. This is a life-long dream of mine, even if "life-long" sounds a little strange to me since I'm just 19 years old, but still....
  2. Nervous. I knew I was going to be nervous, but getting reassurance from Matty and some really close friends helped me keep my feet on the ground, even when I thought I was going to float away!
  3. A little Sad. I had a hard time figuring out why I was feeling sad. The closest I can come to understanding this is that it means I'm leaving behind this "image" (this may not be the right word, but it's something like that) of me being a "kid" and sorta entering this whole new world of "adulthood." It's a good sad, but it's still there.
  4. Proud of myself. Hmmmm, not sure that qualifies as a "feeling" but I'm sticking with it. I'm proud of myself for setting this as a goal of mine and working hard to make sure it comes true.
  5. Hopeful. I feel like this is something important I'm doing to make a strong foundation for my future.
Now, I have to say something about the second half of the title of this post, that part about "Whether I Should Believe Matty."

He told me last week that there was one thing he never told me about starting college. He said he didn't want to freak me out. So naturally I start getting a little freaked because he was saying it in this really serious tone of voice.

He said every incoming Freshman class has to go through some kind of "initiation" because it's part of college tradition. He said each semester there's a theme and this semester the theme was "A Freshman Scrubbing."

Since we've been together, I have sorta learned by now when Matty's kidding and when he's being serious. I was about 40% sure he was just joking with me, but I've heard about things like college hazing and college pranks, so I thought maybe he might be telling the truth. Expecially since the theme kinda sounded like some kind of "hazing."

He said this theme, "A Freshman Scrubbing," had been used about 5 years ago with that new Freshman class and it was a big hit so they were using it again this semester. He said there was even a video made and asked me if I wanted to see it. Well, I thought if there was a video out there, maybe I should believe him more than just 40%. Maybe I should move that number up to about 60% or higher.

Well, here's the video he showed me. After watching it, you tell me whether I've sharpened my skills in knowing when he's joking or being serious!

Well, wish me luck on my first day. Oh, and I most certainly am not going to be washing any cars today!!!

2 'College' Boys in Love

Hi everybody! I haven't posted in a while so I thought I'd put up something about these 2 guys I know who are both going to be full-time college students next month!

One of those guys is already a full-time student, and the other  is starting his college career next month. Oh, and did I mention, these 2 guys are in love, like in the title of this blog.

Yep, Matty has written about about how he just finished his first semester, and he's reassuring me that he'll show me all the ropes to make my first semester a "piece of cake" (his words, since he knows I like baking cakes!). His dad told him how proud he was that he made it through in "blazing glory." You should have seen Matty's face when his dad said that. He acted all shy but his face actually turned a few shades of red.

Everybody knows how much I love cooking, especially baking, so Matty tells me before long I'm going to be a "well seasoned" student. And I kinda like that. It's sorta like I'm going to throw some tasty ingredients into this bowl, like a dash of "confidence," a pinch of "determination," a spoonful of "discipline," a cup of "hope," a gallon of "blood, sweat and tears," and a  bushel of "hugs and reassurances" from someone experienced in these things, like Matty.

One of the things I'm totally psyched about is we managed to schedule one class together!   At the college where we're going, you have to take a history class in your freshman year, and we both managed to get into this American History course.

We're both looking forward to it but I know Matty's especially excited because he's really fascinated by the Civil War years in American history. He had this high school history teacher who was a Civil War buff and his enthusiasm really rubbed off on Matty. Matty's actually read about 5 biographies of Abraham Lincoln, owns and has seen the whole Ken Burns documentary on the Civil War about 10 times, and can talk about some of the military campaigns that I've never heard of. I love listening to "General Matthew" when he assumes command of some battle like at Vicksburg or Gettysburg or Antietam (I had to google how to spell that last one!).

But, enough about Matty! (LOL, just kidding sweetie!)  All I'm excited about now is knowing we'll be sitting together in the same classroom and can do homework and papers together. He's a little worried that he'll be too distracted by me sitting right next to him, but I've told him he has to keep his hands to himself and face the professor! At all times! Either that or I'm moving to another place in the classroom, probably behind him so he can't steal these looks at me! LOL.

We'll also be able to meet for lunch every day and then his hands can go roaming wherever they like (within common decency!) I just hope he remembers to use those hands to stuff his lunch in his mouth so he won't starve! LOL.

We'll also have some "down time" together during the day so we can meet at the library to (try and) study. Plus, there's some really nice parts of the campus where we can hold hands and go walking.

In the meantime, I need some help stocking up on all the school supplies I'll need. My backpack from high school is so ratty people would probably think I was a refugee from some zombie-land! Now that I have somebody experienced to show me the ropes, I'm gonna have to drag him to go shopping with me. Somehow I think he just might enjoy this kind of shopping!

College Boy Survives!

Whew!! I just finished my first semester in college! Can we have a huge round of applause out there??!!

If you remember, I had been worried I might have all kinds of trouble getting back into the swing of things since I had taken a year off between high school and college. Even though the issues with my ADHD have gotten better over the years, that demon is still there.

Anytime I change a major routine in my life, my brain has a hard time getting use to a new way of doing things. Minor, everyday routines are never a big problem. It's just those major changes I have a problem with. If I don't find ways to keep myself centered (as one of my high school counselors called it) my brain can start going haywire. But once I settle into the flow of things, and remember to take the meds, I look back and think what all the fuss was about.

I wrote a post at the beginning of this semester about how overwhelmed I felt that first day, and really that first week. Brad deserves a lot of the credit for being so patient with me while I was freaking out. I was having all kind of thoughts about how I would never be able to concentrate and focus enough to be a success.

I actually did pretty good academically, which I'm proud of. I had heard horror stories about how different high school was from college, and there is definitely a huge difference in many ways. But it didn't end up involving horror or catastrophe.

Some of the professors really seemed to enjoy teaching, and this helped me settle in. I also had a few professors who really need to think seriously about retiring soon. One actually just came to class every time and read his lecture to us. No discussion. No questions. No interaction. He should have just passed out copies of his lecture and gone home (and let us go home)!

Oh, Brad has some plans for tonight to celebrate. He's invited some friends of ours over and then we're all going out for dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant.

Then he has something planned for tonight... at home... just the two of us... not involving friends... just us. I can't imagine what that might be about! It's something I'm sure I'll enjoy because when I bug him about giving me some hints, he just gives me that sweet grin he has. Then when I press him more, he puts on that wicked look he has, like I've seen so many nights when he's being frisky! So, we'll see! (YIPPIE, I'm so excited!!)

Brad starts his first semester in January and, poor thing, I can tell he's a little worried. I'm trying to reassure him it's no big deal, but you know how those beginning Freshmen get sometimes! {Ouch!!! He just punched me!} I'm telling him he'll have a Man of Experience to help him get through that first week! So he can just chill! LOL! {Ouch!}

Anyway, I made it. I frickin made it!

Off to College!

"We are pleased to inform you..." With those words, I begin my full-time college career!

So much has been happening over the past month, why not add one more major thing to the list?! Earlier this week I was officially informed that I was accepted as a full-time student! So, beginning in January I'll be joing Matty on the road to getting a college degree!

We're planning something big this weekend to celebrate, and Matty's in charge! He won't tell me what we're going to do at this point, but whatever it is will be very special, I'm sure!

Just wanted all of you to know how excited I am about this.

The Blog, Matty's Request and the Big Move

Hi everybody.

Just wanted to give an update on a couple of things.

1. The Blog. As you know, Matty and I are moving in together October 1st. This means we have a lot to do between now and then. So, we're probably going to be posting a little less frequently for a while, at least until we get a little more settled. But, we'll see. We might be putting up something 2 or 3 times a week instead how much we're doing now.

2. Matty's Request. Matty wanted me to share something. He was talking to me about some of the things he's working on with this school counselor he's been seeing. They have this resource center for students who have different kinds of learning disabilities and attention deficit issues. They also help students who want to learn better study skills, etc. So, he's got some good "general" suggestions about how to manage things from there and asked me if I would be willing to help him come up with some "specific" ideas we could look at. Of course I'd do anything to help, so we're going to be sitting down after I look at all those "general" ideas and help him see how to apply them to his own situation. It makes me feel good that he asked for my help. I'd do anything for him, like I know he'd do anything for me.

3. The Big Move. Just an update on "The Big Move." We finally decided to buy a King size bed! You guys were right, those monsters are expensive. But, we've been saving  money for quite a while now and last weekend went out to "test drive" a few models! That was so much fun. We went to this really cool furniture "paradise" that's popular here in this area and the sales people were so much fun. We told our saleswoman what we were looking for but just wanted to start with the bedroom. She was so cool and so much fun. She listened to our pros and cons of Queen vs King and then said she had a recommendation if we wanted to hear it.

She said since it's our first home and we were so cute together (!!!), she would highly recommend the King size bed. "You'll have so much more room to sleep. If you want to cuddle, you can do that. If you want to spread out, you can do that. And, you won't be falling off the mattress when you're having your fun time together." Can you believe this woman? And her sense of humor and comfort level with us? She was so excited for us!

She got us to get on some of the mattresses to see what kind of "firmness" we wanted. We just looked at her and burst out laughing. Then she got the joke about "firmness on the mattress," and nearly died laughing with us. We were all laughing so hard, some other customers came over to see what was so funny. We told her we wanted her to help us furnish the rest of the house when we got ready.

We're still voting on what to call our bedroom. Right now it's a tie: "Master Bedroom" has one vote (Brad), and "Sex Chamber" has one vote (guess who?). ..... In spite of all the stress, this really is a lot of fun! It's also fun to have all of you share our excitement. But no sharing our bed in the "Master Bedroom/Sex Chamber." There's always the guest bedroom you guys can use!

Getting Cruised on Campus (part 2)

Taa Daaaa! Here I am on Friday like I said I would try to be.

If you haven't read what I wrote two days ago, this probably won't make much sense.

I also want to say that in the interest of my own sanity, I'm going to try and keep my posts shorter than usual. Starting today. I get too carried away with what I'm saying and tend to throw in all kinds of details that have nothing to do with what I'm really trying to get at.

Anyway, getting back to that guy I was talking to on campus. I'll call him "Mike," which is not his real name.

When I got with Brad later that night I was telling him all about my day and he was telling me about his. I told him some more about meeting Mike and checked again to see if he was okay with meeting him on Thursday. He again just said, "Yeah, that's cool."

Well, as you may know this about me by now, I tend to go on and on sometimes when I should just keep things short. To be honest I was still feeling a little guilty about how I handled the flirty thing with Mike and to Brad's credit, he didn't seem bothered about it at all. This was all coming from me.

So, since I was still feeling some guilt I started explaining all over again how we met and what happened. Brad was just listening and smiling. But can Matt make situations worse than they need to be? Yeah, I'm pretty good at that. It felt really good that Brad was trusting me and didn't seem the least bit jealous. So, what do I do but throw in that thing about his freckles (!).

Brad was still listening and seemed to be enjoying the whole thing. Then he just looked at me and said, "Do you have a crush on this guy?"

Well, I then got defensive which really made the whole thing worse. I realize now that Brad was just asking a simple question and was kind of enjoying the whole thing. But I was getting all nervous inside like I had done this really bad thing. I totally get (now) that I was feeling guilty and this was coming across and making Brad feel suspicious.

At the end of our talk, when I was able to think clearly, I just said I had been feeling guilty. Brad reassured me he didn't think I had anything to feel guilty about and he really was cool with the whole thing. Plus, he said something like, "I don't care if you have an innocent crush on him. He sounds like a sweet guy. But if you're trying to tell me you want to keep flirting with him, well, then we've got a problem."

After explaining that I had no interest in the guy, other than seeing if we could be friends, Brad said his typical (and sincere), "Cool. I'd like to meet him."

So yesterday when Brad was on campus for his class, the three of us met. I could tell Mike was slightly nervous at first, but Brad was his little charming self and was so friendly with him that the two of them really hit it off. After a little while, he and Brad were talking about how they both liked to sometimes wear a little eye-liner. Well, that opened up a whole topic about how they both liked to femme it up sometimes. And there I am, just sitting back, watching and listening to the two of them have a good time realizing they both had some things in common. For a while I didn't say anything because I was actually enjoying watching them.

They both try to bring me in the conversation and the whole thing ended up being a lot of fun. We told Mike we were moving in together on October 1st and he asked if he could help us move. Brad looked at me and I just said, "Oh yeah, that'd be great. I mean, if you really want to." He said it would be a relief to get off campus and out of the dorm, so now we have an extra hand!

Mike also offered to give us any ideas about decorating since he has always been his family's "interior designer" and always liked doing that. So Brad and I both said, almost at the same time, "Hey, we could use all the help we can get."

Okay, let me check and see how long this post is. Give me just a minute.

Not too long, so I'll just add two more short things.

First, later that night Brad and I agreed he seemed like a really cool guy and we both look forward to being friends with him.

Second, Brad just couldn't resist teasing me, and said, in his best flirty voice, "And you're right about those freckles. And did you notice how long his eye lashes were?" {He had this fake-dreamy look in his eyes, and was licking his lips}

I just broke out laughing and tackled him, holding him down and planting these kisses all over him. While I was on top of him, I looked him straight in the eyes and said, "You just remember, big boy, I saw him first!" Then I started stripping his clothes off. {He didn't offer any resistance, either}

He spent last night at my house and, well, we had some of the best sex we've had in a while, and that's saying a lot! I am so totally in love with you, Brad.

Getting Cruised on Campus (part 1)

OK, so some times my mind is in the gutter. And don't tell me your mind doesn't go there sometimes, too. I know it does. You're out in public and your eyes make you see certain guys who, for different reasons, come into your line of vision and you let yourself linger a little longer than you should and you start making up this fantasy about what he looks like naked, which then progresses into what he might be like in bed. Sorta like making this little porno movie in your head that's only about the sex and has nothing to do with who this guy is as a real person.

Then there are those times that are in a different category altogether. Not "gutter-looking," but more like just innocently noticing an attractive guy. Brad and I have talked before about how we might be riding around, for example, and we both might do a double-take on some guy. Just boy-watching is all it is. Sometimes we both turn our heads toward the same guy, chuckle, and then there's this little sly grin that breaks out between us. Most of the time we don't have to say a word. That mutual sly grin says it all. It's kinda fun, ya know? Totally innocent. Life goes on. Eyes back on the road. We get back to talking about whatever lofty subject we were on. You know, the meaning of life, what Beckett was trying to get at in Waiting for Godot, the pros and cons of vegan, and that all important topic of do we stop at McDonald's for a burger until we decide!

That first category ("gutter-looking" leading to a porno movie in your mind) involves no one getting hurt. It just leads to your body getting flooded with all those hormones responsible for making you super-horny... like when you actually watch a real porno movie.

That second category ("boy watching") is also innocent. Just appreciating a nice-looking guy walking down the street.

Then there's another category when you decide to let what's happening in your brain grab you by the, well, uh, genitals and leads you to make a move on somebody. Active flirting. Cruising. It's what happened when I first laid eyes on Brad at my eighteenth birthday party and went over to talk to him... kind of in a mental daze because I thought I had instantly fallen in love! That's what it felt like. Of course, it was just "falling in lust," pure and simple. So I'm not knocking "falling in lust" because, for us, it then led to us dating and, well, you know the rest of the story. Here we are now. Not in lust anymore (though lust makes it's appearance at all the right times!), but in love.

Why am I rambling on like this? I just read back over everything I wrote and almost deleted it so I could start over again. I decided to leave it in, I guess, so I could tell you where I'm coming from in the real point of this post. So bear with me while I continue.

The only guy I've ever actively flirted with with any degree of mission has been Brad. I had some serious crushes on a few guys in high school, all of whom were straight with girlfriends, but never made any moves on any of them. I have to admit some of those crushes made my brain do some gutter-porno movies, but it was all in my head and the only action I ever took was with my "handy hand" in the privacy of my bedroom or shower.

Before Brad, there were a few guys who flirted with me, but I was never confident enough or, to be honest, knew what you're suppose to say to get from point A to point B or C or D or... you get the picture. It was always kind of anxiety provoking and, whether you believe this or not, I'm actually kind of shy when it comes to that kind of thing. I mean, when I know the rules and routine of doing something socially, I'm pretty good at it. But "flirting on a mission" has never been something I've been confident about. Something different kicked in that day I met Brad and I started making the moves. I have no idea how to explain it. It just happened. That's all I can say.

So, the real point of this post is this. A couple of days ago at school I was being cruised by this guy on campus. It took me a while to realize that's what was happening. I decided to write about it... well, I know you're not suppose to give the ending away, but you'll see the point (I hope) when I get to the end.

So, there's this guy in my Intro to Psychology class who had been sitting opposite me at this long table in the classroom during my first week in school, which was last week. If you remember, I was a "wee bit nervous" (understatement of the year) and anxious and on the edge of a full-blown nuclear panic attack that week. I was taking notes like crazy, like I was a court transcriber who had to get every word being said from the witness! When the prof took a 10 second break for a sip of water, I would glance up and look around to see if anybody else was about to go mental like me. Then I'd be back to taking notes. I sorta started relaxing after a while and tried to just go with the flow. Most of the stuff the prof was talking about was just explaining what the course is, etc.

Anyway, every time I would look around the class, that guy sitting across from me would smile at me. Not in a creepy way. He actually had a cute mischievous look to him. I sotra gave him a little smile back but didn't linger.

Well, at the end of class I looked up and noticed him gathering all his stuff, getting ready to leave the classroom like me and everybody else, and he glances over and smiles again and does that slight nod of the head guys do with each other. Sorta like, "How ya doing?" except it's all non verbal. I just did a little nod back and grabbed my stuff and left.

This week, we were sitting in about the same location with us facing each other. He smiles and nods. I smile and nod back. The smile thing goes on a few more times during class. Well, this week I'm all cool and collected compared to last week. My nerves have been taking a nap and I feel like I'm returning to my normal self.

So, I'm sitting there and it's dawning on me that he's actually flirting with me. And I've been all smiley and doing that nodding thing back. So, guess what happens? That's right, my nerves wake up from their nap and I'm getting all freaky inside. What the hell am I doing? So, I go back into "scholar" mode and start taking more notes and keep my head down.

When class is over, he's sorta lingering at the door and we walk out together. I don't want to give the wrong impression about him. He's really not overdoing anything or acting like a stalker. Sitting across the table from me he looked like he was not a day over 16. But standing up and chatting, he looked a little older, like he was probably 18. He's got this "boy-next-door" look, tall and slender, blonde hair and a few freckles. No, I'm not checking him out, but he did have those freckles.

OK, so I was noticing him more than I said. He really did have this adorable and innocent look about him and he was being friendly. He introduced himself and I did likewise. He asked me if I had another class right then, which I didn't, and asked if I wanted to grab a soda or coffee. So I said, "Sure." Then we headed to this cafe/snack bar in the building next to where we were.

We get there and he's asking me where I'm from, etc.... He tells me he's from this state out in the midwest and his home is about a hundred miles from the nearest big city. He's living in one of the dorms and said he was feeling a little overwhelmed by the number of people everywhere.

So, I'm now thinking maybe he's just lonesome and is trying to zero in on a few people he can be friends with. I can handle that. I can certainly identify with feeling overwhelmed.

Then he asks me if I've made any friends on campus. I tell him I've talked to a few people who seem nice, but it's just the second week. Then I had this gut feeling that, yeah, maybe he is lonesome or something, but he had that shy look on his face and something about the way he was smiling told me he actually was doing some low-key flirting.

So, I use this opportunity to tell him that the only person on campus I know really well is my boyfriend who is taking one class on Thursdays.

Now he's slowly and slightly nodding his head as he takes this in. Then his face starts blushing and he sorta does a little gulp. He gets really quite and I realize he's going into embarassment mode. So now I'm feeling bad that I didn't make this known earlier. He really seemed like a nice, decent guy and I now I'm trying to think about how to put him at ease.

So I tell him I should have said something earlier and he jumps in and apologizes for being so forward. I just said something like, "Hey, you have nothing to apologize for. You didn't do anything wrong. I really am trying to make a few friends, and, well, maybe we can hang out together." He just looks at me and said, "You sure?" So I said, "Yeah. That'd be nice. I'd like you to meet my boyfriend if you're around on Thursday." He asks, "Will he be cool with that?" Now I'm chuckling and just say, "Yeah. Why wouldn't he be cool with it? We're both wanting to make some friends and so far haven't met any other gay people here. Uh, I guess I'm assuming you're gay. Sorry about that... Now I'm totally embarrassed because you might be bi or straight, or..." And now I'm the one blushing.

So, he tells me he's gay and would really like to hang out with the two of us. So we make plans to meet at a certain time and place tomorrow when Brad's going to be on campus. We talk a little more and finish our coffee. We get ready to leave and both go through our apologies to each other again and it's actually kinda sweet, ya know?

When I leave campus I call Brad to tell him about it. The whole thing. All he says is, "Cool." When we get together later that night we talk some more about it and the conversation starts taking twists and turns I hadn't anticipated. Now I'm realizing the whole thing is a little more complicated than just, "Cool." We talk some more and, well, Thursday is tomorrow, and... I have to leave now and get myself to class. Sorry. Details will follow tomorrow.
